MTG Price Guide

Magic: The Gathering has one of the deepest card pools of any trading card game, with over 100,000 unique cards spanning 200+ sets and more than 30 years of history. TCG Price Lookup gives you real-time MTG card prices from TCGPlayer and eBay — covering every set from Alpha and Beta to the latest Standard releases.

Our MTG price checker shows market prices for every condition, so you can see exactly what a card is worth whether it's Near Mint, Lightly Played, or in worse condition. For high-value cards, we also track PSA, BGS, and CGC graded values across all grades.

Whether you're pricing out a Commander deck, checking the value of your collection, evaluating a trade, or tracking price spikes from recent tournament results, you'll find accurate, up-to-date pricing data here.

What Affects MTG Card Prices

Magic: The Gathering card prices are driven by several factors unique to the game:

Format legality. Cards legal in Standard, Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy each have different demand curves. A Modern staple can command a very different price than a card only played in Commander.

Reprint risk. Unlike some TCGs, Magic regularly reprints cards, which can reduce prices. Reserved List cards — which Wizards of the Coast has promised never to reprint — tend to hold or increase in value over time.

Supply and set type. Limited print runs, special editions (Collector Boosters, Secret Lairs), and older out-of-print sets create scarcity that drives prices up.

Commander demand. The Commander format is the most popular way to play Magic, and high-demand Commander staples hold significant value even if they see no play in competitive 60-card formats.

Condition and grading. For vintage cards (Alpha, Beta, Unlimited, Revised), condition dramatically affects price. A BGS 9.5 Black Lotus is worth significantly more than a Lightly Played copy.

Frequently Asked Questions

The most expensive Magic cards include the Power Nine (Black Lotus, Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, etc.), Reserved List dual lands, and rare Alpha/Beta cards. Modern expensive cards include sought-after Secret Lair editions and Commander staples.
Card prices vary by format demand. A card may be expensive because it's a Modern staple, a Commander favorite, or both. Cards that rotate out of Standard often drop in price unless they see play in non-rotating formats.
Generally, yes — reprints increase supply and can lower prices. However, original printings often retain a premium, especially for iconic sets. Reserved List cards can never be reprinted and tend to hold value.
Yes. We track PSA, BGS, and CGC graded values for Magic cards. This is especially useful for vintage cards (Alpha, Beta, Unlimited) where grading significantly affects value.
